Culture and history
The Gambia is part of the cultural range of Senegambia with a rich oral tradition (griots, bark), crafts and musical rituals.
The legacy of the colonial period and Islamic norms instilled a restrained attitude to excitement: priority - family values, communal mutual assistance and moderation in leisure.
Historically, collective entertainment is popular - board games, street tournaments, wrestling and football matches; lotteries are perceived as social and charitable initiatives.
In cities, under the influence of tourism and the media, interest in sports betting and mobile entertainment is increasing, but public expectations still require responsibility, transparency and the prevention of addictions.
