Laws and regulation
The legal environment for gambling in the Gambia remains restrained and subject to periodic changes.
The priority is social protection and control over operator activities.
Ground formats (lottery, limited betting points, entertainment games) are allowed only with state permits; the online segment is de facto considered as requiring separate admission and compliance with local requirements (local company/partner, payment gateways, data storage).
Licensing is permissive with verification of beneficiaries (KYC/AML), sources of funds and technical infrastructure.
There are strict restrictions for advertising: protection of minors, prohibition of aggressive promo, mandatory warnings about responsible gambling.
Basic standards include 18 + for participation, limits and self-control tools, as well as reporting on turnover and taxes from gross gaming income.
An important feature of the market is possible moratoriums/revisions of the rules, so it is critical for operators and affiliates to monitor official notifications and current permit conditions, and for users to choose only legal services with a transparent responsible gaming policy.
