Culture and history
Historically, a secular "casino culture" has not formed in Mauritania: religious norms have enshrined public rejection of gambling and a complete legal ban.
The colonial or tourist "islands" of the gambling scene did not take root - the economic and cultural fabric of the country is focused on religious and family values.
In everyday life, social leisure formats dominate: meetings in teahouses, music, poetic improvisations, board games like tawla (backgammon), dominoes and cards - strictly without cash bets.
Holiday life (weddings, religious dates) is built around communal rituals and hospitality, not monetary risks.
As a result, the "game" code is communication and tradition, while gambling remains outside the cultural and legal field.
