Laws and regulation
In Mauritius, gambling is permitted and regulated by the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA).
The regulator issues and renews licenses, approves rules for casinos, slot machines, betting activities, sweepstakes and lotteries, and also monitors compliance with technical and financial standards.
KYC/eKYC procedures, storage of records and reporting of suspicious transactions are mandatory; the age threshold is 18 +.
Advertising and promotions are allowed only in accordance with the established norms and warnings about responsible play; there is a mechanism of self-exclusion.
The use of the Internet and phone for betting is possible only with operators who have received the appropriate GRA permission; unlicensed activity, including offshore sites, is considered a violation and may be blocked and licenses suspended or revoked.
The general goal of the regime is a legal, transparent and responsible market with clear rules for operators and players.
