Economics and statistics
The gambling industry of Uganda is a noticeable, but not systemically important part of the economy: the contribution to the budget is formed due to license fees, taxation of operators and deductions from winnings.
Revenue is distributed between land-based casinos, bookmakers' PPPs and distance products, while the share of online betting and instant games is growing due to the wide availability of mobile Internet and the dominance of Mobile Money (MTN/Airtel) as a payment method in UGX.
Employment is concentrated in cities (Kampala and large areas) - these are the PPP front office, dealers, IT and compliance states, as well as related services (marketing, security).
Key demand drivers: football popularity, "light" formats of instant games, mobile wallets and local jackpots.
Risks - tightening rules, blocking unlicensed sites, traffic costs and pressure on disposable income.
To monitor the market, it is advisable to track: the share of non-cash payments (Mobile Money), MAU/DAU of online operators, the average check and frequency of rates, tax revenues from the industry, as well as the offline/online GGR ratio.
Without deterioration in macro conditions and compliance, moderate growth is expected due to the mobile segment and digital products.
