Culture and history
Malaysian gaming culture is built on a balance of religious restraint and multinational life.
For the majority of the Muslim population, gambling is taboo by Sharia law, which enshrined a socially cautious attitude to the topic and severe restrictions.
At the same time, historically in cities and among non-Muslim communities (Chinese and Indian diasporas), "socially acceptable" formats remained - lotteries and numerical draws.
The modernization of tourism led to the emergence of the only casino resort in the Genting Mountains, which became a "guest" product with international service standards, VIP areas and entertainment infrastructure.
The marketing of the industry is restrained, the emphasis is on compliance, protection of vulnerable groups and respect for religious norms; in popular culture, excitement is perceived more as tourist entertainment than part of everyday life.
