The legal regime in Malaysia allows betting only on horse racing through licensed clubs and off-course betting; bookmaking for football, basketball, eSports and other disciplines is prohibited both online and offline.

Supervision is implemented through blocking sites and applications, payment filters and raids; additional religious prohibitions apply to Muslims.

The fan's interest is traditionally led by European football (Premier League, Champions League), then badminton, motorsport and combat sports, but there are no legal lines for these events, so part of the demand goes offshore with high risks for players.

Basic KPIs for monitoring: betting turnover by running, share of offshore traffic/payments, average check and seasonality according to the racing calendar, indicator of blocking and law enforcement actions.
