Historically, the attitude to gambling in Myanmar is set by Theravadin Buddhism: playing for money is perceived as a distraction from virtue and a source of social risks.

In the colonial era, organized forms of excitement (lotteries, sweepstakes on the run) appeared, but they are not rooted in popular culture.

After independence, the state consistently limited gambling practices, retaining only narrow permissible formats (gosloteria) and prohibiting the participation of citizens in casinos.

The modern "gaming" way is shifted to tourism and borders: casinos are focused on foreigners in border cities, while traditional non-gambling entertainment - chinlone (playing with a rattan ball), festivals, dances and theatrical performances dominate inside the country.

The social consensus remains the same: maintain cultural forms of leisure and keep commercial excitement on the periphery of public life.
