Land-based casinos
Land-based casinos in Myanmar operate legally, but only in a segment designed for foreign tourists.
Since the legislation was updated, the government has allowed gambling facilities to operate in tourist and border areas such as Tachilek and Myawadi, where the flow of players comes mainly from Thailand and China.
For Myanmar citizens, casino visits remain prohibited, and police and tax authorities monitor compliance with this rule.
All operators are required to undergo licensing, comply with standards of transparency, anti-money laundering control (AML) and income reporting.
Despite strict regulation, some of the gambling activity remains in the "gray zone" - small illegal clubs in rural areas and border towns, which are periodically closed during raids.
