Land-based casinos
In the DPRK, gambling for citizens is prohibited, so land-based casinos are usually focused exclusively on foreigners and are located in separate hotels or special economic zones.
Access is tightly controlled, a passport of a foreign guest is required; settlements are made in foreign currency.
Format - compact halls with a basic set of games (baccarat, roulette, blackjack; limited - slots/ETG), minimal advertising and increased behavior requirements.
The operating model is often built through joint ventures overseen by local administrative structures; mode of operation is unstable: prolonged suspensions are possible due to the border regime, sanctions, epidemiological measures or political conditions.
Internal liberalization is not expected: objects are considered as a point source of foreign exchange earnings with a maximum level of control and opacity.
