Land-based casinos

Land-based Sri Lankan casinos operate under license and are concentrated in Colombo and tourist areas.

Operators are required to comply with the requirements for accommodation, video surveillance, reporting and financial control, as well as identify guests and personnel according to KYC/AML standards.

The model is focused on tourism: there are bars, restaurants and shows at the casino, VIP lounges and high-roller programs are found.

Advertising and promo are limited, entrance rules and dress code are controlled, access to minors is prohibited.

Fiscally, venues pay licensing fees and special taxes on game revenue.

Outside of licenses, playrooms and "private clubs" are considered illegal and are closed.

The trend is to increase the transparency of reporting, tighten the responsible game and develop integrated entertainment complexes without switching to online formats.
