Laws and regulation
Iceland has a conservative model: classic casinos, slot machine halls and private online casinos are prohibited.
Only select forms of play with a public/charitable purpose - lotteries, bingo and sports pools - are allowed, which are held on individual permits and under government supervision.
The sale and advertising of such products is strictly limited; access - only from the age of 18, identity checks and transparent payment rules are required.
There is no local licensing for private online operators; foreign sites are not considered legitimate market participants, and payment and advertising channels in their favor may be limited.
The priority of the state is to minimize harm and protect consumers, so the sector remains small and tightly regulated.
