Culture and history
Historically, excitement in Sweden developed in a moderate, "socially oriented" way: for many years lotteries and sweepstakes dominated, the proceeds of which were directed to sports and public projects.
At the end of the 20th century, the state model was entrenched with a strong role for Svenska Spel; in the 2000s, the "poker boom," media tournaments and the growth of online formats attracted public attention.
A key cultural shift occurred with the reform of 2019: the market became licensed, and the values of transparency and responsible play (BankID, Spelpaus, moderate advertising) became part of everyday practice.
Today, the gaming culture is pragmatic and "digital": mobile casinos, betting on football and hockey, growing interest in e-sports - with clear restrictions and high confidence in legitimate operators.
