Online gambling in the Bahamas: no local license

Shortly

There is no public online license like. "Bs E-Gaming" for any operators. Basic Law - Gaming Act 2014 with by-laws Gaming Regulations 2014.

Online formats are allowed only as an addition to the existing terrestrial casino: restricted interactive, mobile and proxy gaming - under separate licenses. Only the holder of the main "gaming license" of the casino can apply to them.

A separate segment of gaming houses (web-shops) has been legalized for the local population - it is not equal to resort casinos and has its own rules and regulations.

Offshore sites are technically accessible; profile directories note that offshore operators accept players from the Bahamas without harassing local users.

What exactly the law allows (and what it does not allow)

Allowed for land casinos (Baha Mar, Atlantis, etc.):
  • Restricted interactive gaming - an Internet game under strict conditions (legally "limited" vertical associated with a licensed casino in the Bahamas), Mobile gaming - mobile bets in the perimeter and according to the rules of the casino, Proxy gaming - a game through an approved intermediary/dealer in the hall.
  • All these modes are issued on top of the main casino license and are administered in detail by the regulator.
What is not:
  • There is no broad online license for independent sites hosted in the Bahamas and operating all players (in/out of the country) without being tied to a land-based casino. Any "interactive" activity requires special licenses/permissions within the 2014 framework.

Separate branch: domestic-segment (web-shops)

By the 2014 reform, the government legalized and strictly normalized gaming houses ("web-shops") - local interactive points/sites exclusively for domestic players (residents) with mandatory offline KYC when opening an account, internal controls, audits and procedures for maintaining accounts and payments. This is another branch of the market that is not identical to resort casinos.

Offshore sites: de facto access

Since there is no universal Bahamian online license, many players use offshore platforms (Curaçao, Malta, etc.). Profile directories note that such operators accept customers from the Bahamas, and there are no cases of harassment of users for access to offshore sites. This, however, is outside Bahamian jurisdiction and carries payout/dispute/CCR risks.

Age and tolerance: an important link offline ↔ online

Resort casinos in the Bahamas operate on an "18 + non-resident only" model; any online products tied to such casinos (sportsbook, mobile, restricted interactive) follow the general access logic and KYC/AML standards and responsible gaming. Example: Baha Mar Sportsbook by William Hill is part of the resort ecosystem, not a "nationwide" online vertical.

What it means for operators and content creators

1. No "free" e-gaming window: launch online casino "on. bs" it is impossible without a ground base - only through restricted interactive/mobile/proxy for an existing casino.

2. Web-shops ≠ casinos: this is a home segment with its own regulations and strict CUS/internal control.

3. Content about "legal online casinos Bahamas" is correctly formulated as "limited interactive services with licensed casinos" and a separate domestic segment, and not as a full-fledged regime of nationwide online licensing.

As of October 11, 2025, there is no local "general" license for online casinos in the Bahamas. The 2014 legislation only allows narrow online/mobile formats for land-based casinos and local web-shops for residents. There is de facto access to offshore sites, but it is removed from Bahamian supervision and increases user risks. For correct examination and content, rely on the texts of Gaming Act/Regulations 2014 and the regulator's manual.

Key sources:
  • Gaming Act 2014 (consolidated text) and Gaming Regulations 2014 - restricted interactive/mobile/proxy mode; tax and reporting norms.
  • Gaming House Operator Regulations 2014 - procedures for web-shops (registration of players, KYC, account/payment control).
  • Profile guides on offshore access for players from the Bahamas.
  • An example of "tied" services: Baha Mar Sportsbook by William Hill.
