National Lottery of Mexico
What is Lotería Nacional (LOTENAL)
Lotería Nacional is the state operator of lottery draws in Mexico (known as LOTENAL), leading the story since 1770 (Real Lotería de Nueva España). The organization holds traditional and electronic draws, and publishes official results and prize lists.
Merging with Pronósticos: One 'ecosystem' of pranks
In 2022, the process of merging LOTENAL and Pronósticos para la Asistencia Pública was completed: now "electronic" games (Melate, Chispazo, Tris, etc.) go under the Lotería Nacional brand in a single circuit.
Draw formats: what happens and how they differ
Traditional (paper "ticket "/" series" tickets)
Sorteo Mayor. Tuesday's classic: the ticket is divided into 20 shares - cachitos; the price guide is MXN 30 per cachito (series 20 pieces - MXN 600). The prize pool and release parameters change by release.
Sorteo Superior. Friday circulation, typically 40 MXN per cachito (800 MXN series).
Sorteo Zodiaco (weekly, on Sundays) and Zodiaco Especial (once a month) - 120,000 numbers are used for each of the 12 zodiac signs; Zodiaco Especial often has a price of 35 MXN for cachito and large funds in one series.
Gordo de Navidad (24 December). The annual "New Year's Eve" draw with a large prize pool and widespread tickets around the country.
What is cachito and "series"?
The official FAQ explains: cachito is the 1/20 part of the series (the whole ticket is "20 cachitos"). You can buy either one cachito or the full series.
Electronic (former "Pronósticos")
Melate + Revancha + Revanchita, Melate Retro, Chispazo, Tris, Gana Gato are regular draws with online publication of results and history of combinations.
How much does participation cost and what prizes (examples)
Mayor: series (20 shares) - 600 MXN ⇒ 30 MXN per cachito; prizes - by issue (approximate parameters on circulation cards).
Superior: 40 MXN per cachito, series - 800 MXN; detailed prize sheets for each issue are regularly published.
Zodiaco Especial: benchmark - 35 MXN per cachito, a large fund in one series; Prize Major often ~ MXN 11 million per episode (an example from releases).
Gordo de Navidad: traditionally a large-scale large prize pool - in recent years LOTENAL has announced total payments of over 430 million MXN.
Where to watch the results on the day of circulation
Official site: a single page of results for all draws (traditional and electronic), as well as archives for Melate/Tris/Chispazo.
LOTENAL YouTube channels: separate broadcasts and recordings of "traditional" and "electronic" circulations.
Legal basics: What's important for the player and the editor to know
Exception to LFJS: The Federal Gaming and Sweepstakes Act (LFJS) governs gambling and sweepstakes, with the exception of Lotería Nacional, which is governed by its own norm. This is a direct indication in the LFJS text.
SEGOB/DGJS: all betting games in the country require permits from the Secretariat of Management and Internal Policy (SEGOB) through the DGJS; LOTENAL acts as a separate state operator.
Age restrictions: participation is allowed only for adults; LOTENAL's terms and conditions for an electronic ticket explicitly say "over 18 years of age."
Practical advice to the participant
1. Choose a format for yourself. If you want a "New Year's atmosphere" and large funds - see Gordo de Navidad; need frequent runs - Melate/Tris/Chispazo.
2. Understand the denomination. For traditional runs, consider one cachito = 1/20 of the series; prices differ by circulation type.
3. Winning check. Check the number/series on the official Listas de premios page or in the results section - do not rely only on third-party aggregators.
4. Payment terms and procedure. Follow the instructions on the back of the ticket/in the electronic receipt and on the official website of the issue (place and method of receipt, window for presentation).
Why LOTENAL is part of the cultural code
The National Lottery is one of the oldest institutions in the country: for more than two centuries, the lottery has funded public projects, changed drawing formats and in the 2020s combined "traditional" tickets with an "electronic" line within one organization.
Lotería Nacional in 2025 is a single platform of traditional and electronic draws: Mayor/Superior/Zodiaco and Melate/Chispazo/Tris. Understanding the "cachito/series," prices and prize structure, as well as checking the results on official resources - the key to correct participation. In short: select the format, check the denomination, keep the receipt - and check the winnings only with LOTENAL.
