Bookmakers (Caliente & Codere, MX)
How licensing works (in a nutshell)
Online and offline betting in Mexico is allowed federally through SEGOB/Dirección General de Juegos y Sorteos (DGJS): it is this department that is authorized to issue permits and control operators. The modern system of online permits was formed after the 2004 regulations.
Who is who
Caliente (Grupo Caliente)
Origin and scale. One of the largest market players; roots are Tijuana, around the racetrack and sports infrastructure. Sources note the Hunk family's dominant position in the group and business development from Tijuana since the 1970s.
Network and "physical core." In addition to online, the brand is associated with the infrastructure of Estadio Caliente and the Xolos club; stadium - the home of the Liga MX club (≈27 thousand seats).
Online storefront. Caliente. mx - a complete set of markets in football, boxing, baseball, plus casino/live casino; offline points and a comprehensive "sports + casino" ecosystem create recognition in the Tijuana border cluster. (See also tourist and stadium material on the Estadio Caliente cluster.)
Codere (Codere Online México)
Positioning. International operator with local. mx-showcase (sports + casino/live). The official website confirms the Mexican showcase with a bonus offer (details change, see current site).
Sponsorship and local recognition. Long-term partnership with CF Monterrey (Rayados): in 2024 the agreement was extended as the "Official Betting Partner," and in 2025 Codere became the main sponsor of the Rayadas women's team, which strengthened its presence in the MX Femenil League.
Appendix. The mobile application for MX is available in storks, with a focus on football/Liga MX and live.
Product: What the player sees
Live and coverage.
Both brands hold tight live on football (Liga MX, internationals), boxing/MMA and baseball; micro-markets, cash out and express trains/SGP (Same Game Parlay) are available online - the standard for the Mexican showcase.
Leagues and local focus.
Caliente is historically "sewn" into the northern sports cluster of Tijuana (match days, stadium, offline traffic).
Codere - vividly represented in Monterrey via Rayados/Rayadas: football works as an "anchor" of influx and retention.
Payments and service (typical for. mx)
SPEI is the basic input/output channel in MXN, fast bank transfers.
CoDi - account-to-account via QR/push (for support from a specific operator).
Cards - instant deposit; withdrawal more often through SPEI.
OXXO - cash for input (usually without output).
KYC 18 + is required; operators have responsible play tools (deposit/time limits, timeout/self-exclusion). (Licensing and control - via SEGOB/DGJS.)
Strengths and nuances - a short comparison
Caliente
Pros: the largest recognition in Mexico, a strong offline base (sports complex, stadium, ground points), a single ecosystem "sport + casino" with a powerful local audience in the north.
Note: like any giant with a wide offline grid, the quality of the experience may differ from site to site; reputational reviews depend on the specific location/service.
Codere
Pros: strong football brand through Rayados/Rayadas, developed mobile product and clear interface for SGP/live; officially declared local license for. mx-displays.
Note: international DNA = bet on "digital" features and promos around football; offline recognition is lower than Caliente in border clusters.
What to choose for the player: practical guidelines
1. Where you are.
In Tijuana/Bach, Caliente wins by "proximity" and stadium/cluster infrastructure; in Monterrey, Rayados/Rayadas fans may be more comfortable with the Codere ecosystem (media, special promotion, match-day design).
2. Which product is more important.
We need frequent live markets and football - either of the two is suitable; appreciate the "bundle" with casino/show games - Caliente is historically strong in the omnichannel; emphasis on mobile SGP and football collaborations - Codere.
3. Payments and withdrawals.
Look at SPEI speed, limits, in-process statuses, commissions; check the cache out and identification rules on your account. (General principles - as in the block about payments above.)
4. Responsible play.
Before the big weekend, set a deposit/time limit and check how to enable "timeout" in your profile. Legal operators are required to provide these tools.
In the Mexican market, Caliente and Codere are two "beacons" with different strengths in offline and media agendas. Caliente relies on the long-term infrastructure of Tijuana (Estadio Caliente, Xolos) and a wide ecosystem of "sports + casinos," which sets a high recognition and flow of offline customers. Codere strengthened the digital side and football image with partnerships with Rayados/Rayadas, focusing on mobile UX and match days. In both cases - .mx focus, SEGOB/DGJS control, KYC 18 + and local payments. It is reasonable to make a choice according to three criteria: your geography, the necessary features (live/SGP/omnichannel) and the speed of SPEI payments.
