Saint Lucia is primarily a carnival culture: July Carnival, with its roots in colonial Catholic traditions and Afro-Caribbean heritage, has become an important marker of identity and an economic driver of holidays. In parallel, the Gros Islet Friday Night Street Party format has been living for 50 + years - a weekly "jump-up" that has long attracted both local and tourists in the Rodney Bay area. In the gambling sphere, the Treasure Bay Casino in Baywalk Mall (Rodney Bay) was a symbol for a long time, but according to tourist and local sources, the site stopped working (marked "permanently closed" and replaced with slot arcades). The regulatory framework is set by Gaming, Racing and Betting Act and Gaming Authority, but the cultural and fiscal center of gravity is shifted to the National Lottery (NLA), which has been financing sports and youth initiatives since the late 1990s.
