Culture and history
The cultural foundations of Australia go to the indigenous peoples - Aboriginal and Torres Strait peoples: the world of Drimtime, songlines and unique artistic traditions (rock painting, spot painting, didgeridoo).
In the XVIII-XIX centuries - British colonization, hard labor settlements and gold rush; in 1901, the colonies merged into a federation.
The twentieth century brought industrialization, participation in world wars (ANZAC mythology), and since the 1970s - a course towards multiculturalism and recognition of the rights of First Nations (referendums, apologies, reconciliation processes).
The modern scene is world-class literature and cinema, music from rock heritage to electronic and indie, architecture and festivals (Vivid Sydney, Melbourne is the capital of art and sport).
In everyday life, "modern oz" cuisine and bush tucker, coffee culture, surfing and mass sports (cricket, AFL, rugby, football) coexist, which form a national identity along with respect for the continent's thousands of years of cultural heritage.
