Sports and betting

In Kiribati, sports are based on community traditions and school leagues.

Key activities are te ano (dynamic team matches with a coconut ball), canoe racing, athletics and mass football at the sites of South Tarawa.

The country performs at Pacific Games and other regional tournaments; weightlifting and middle distance running brought fame.

The betting market is almost not formed: there are no licensed casinos and bookmakers, state regulation is minimal.

Community and church-level charity raffles are sometimes found.

Some residents turn to international online platforms, which carries legal and consumer risks (lack of local protection for players, possible restrictions on payments).

For brands, this means focusing on a responsible approach, offline activations through schools/maneaba and sports festivals, and for players, caution and checking the terms of services.
