Hotel and resort casinos (Suriname)
Why casinos are "in hotels"
From September 13, 2023, updated rules apply: the operation of the casino is allowed only inside the hotel at least 3. This is explicitly enshrined in the Gambling Act (Wet Hazardspelen, S.B. 2023 No. 135). The goal is to concentrate gambling activities in controlled tourist locations with increased access and security requirements.
Compliance is supervised by the Gaming Control Board Suriname (GCBS), whose powers and database of acts are published on official resources.
Three landmark complexes in Paramaribo
1) Ramada by Wyndham Princess (Paramaribo Princess Casino)
The flagship "hotel + casino" of the Princess international chain: on the site - a large gaming hall (hundreds of slots, roulette, baccarat, blackjack, VIP area), restaurants, rooftop pool and 4-hotel infrastructure. For guests of the capital, this is "all-in-one" (accommodation, leisure, game).
2) Torarica Resort (Torarica Hotel & Casino)
Resort cluster on the banks of the Suriname River with its "own" casino: swimming pool, restaurants, promenade and proximity to the historical center. A choice for those who combine a day's rest with an evening game.
3) Dice Suriname — Hotel & Casino
Urban format "24/7": compact hotel at the casino, emphasis on slot pool and quick visits. Convenient for night guests and business trips in the center of Paramaribo.
Legal and operational requirements (short)
Location: only in hotel 3 and above (legal norm).
Oversight: GCBS monitors compliance with conditions and relies on relevant laws/regulations.
Guest access: there is an age threshold and ID check at the entrance (part of the general control mode).
Pros of the "hotel" format for the guest
1. Security and service: reception, security, safes, network standards.
2. Logistics: accommodation, restaurants, pool, game - in one complex, without moving around the night city.
3. Location: Key sites are in the centre and off the Waterkant (hiking trails, gastronomy).
How to choose a site (practice)
Need a "resort"? Take Torarica Resort: green area, relax services and casino "close by."
All-in-one and a large-scale hall? Ramada Princess with a large casino and expanded infrastructure.
Urban "24/7" and more economical? Dice Hotel & Casino.
Pre-visit tips
Documents: take a passport/ID - control at the entrance is required.
Opening hours: in a number of complexes - until late at night or around the clock (check the day before).
Booking: at peak dates it is better to book a room in the same complex - more convenient and safer.
Why it matters for content about Suriname
Hotel binding is not just a "market tradition," but a direct legal requirement. Materials about casinos in Suriname should be structured around hotel clusters (Ramada Princess, Torarica Group, Dice), emphasizing compliance with 2023 standards and GCBS supervision. This reduces the risk of outdated recommendations and enhances your guide's credibility.
